The perfect balance between retention and drainage

The retention/drainage ratio is an essential characteristic of a bonsai substrate. It compares two opposing phenomena : water retention which is vital for the tree, and good drainage which is important in preventing root rot.

chabasai® water retentivity can reach up to 48%. Only akadama can compete at this level. However, this clay loam substrate generaly dehydrate faster. Because of its microporosity chabasai® stores water and keeps void spaces between the granules. Then, chabasai® prevents root rotting.
